Tiptree Patisserie Welcomes Catering Students for a Hands-On Bakery Experience

Tiptree Patisserie recently welcomed a group of 16 catering students from Colchester Institute, accompanied by their tutor, Philomena Harris, for an exciting and educational visit.

During their time with us, the students explored the inner workings of a busy commercial bakery and gained valuable hands-on experience across various departments. They had the opportunity to learn practical skills in sponge cake baking and decorating, scones, biscuits, cupcakes, and handmade desserts.

Managing Director Daren McGrath led the visit, sharing insights into the hospitality industry and engaging in meaningful conversations with the students about their future goals and career aspirations. Additional talks were given by key members of the team, including Tyler Bennett, who oversees business development and new product development, Luke Harper, who manages operations and purchasing, and Jemma James, who looks after accounts, costings, and human resources.

To wrap up the afternoon, the students took part in a lively cupcake decorating competition. Using a wide selection of decorations, each team created their own unique box of cupcakes. The winning team was awarded an afternoon tea voucher, generously provided by Tiptree Patisserie.
